Assessment Services
A parent, or young person themselves, may be asking whether autistic experience is a way to make sense of a range of differences and preferences they have become aware of over time.
Sometimes this possibility has been raised by a friend or family member, or by a teacher or healthcare professional. A helpful next step might be to begin a process of exploring whether autistic experience aligns with a young person’s lived experience. This is achieved through our careful and considered autism identification process.
We are dedicated to offering an assessment process that is respectful of families and their lived experiences, and is therapeutic in nature. We understand that each autism identification process is deeply personal and individual, filled with a family’s unique story and journey, and we strive to give each family the space they need.
Our multidisciplinary reports are fully recognised by the HSE and the Department of Education.
Our Process
An autism identification process includes four steps:
01 Information Gathering
Information is gathered from home and school settings, via questionnaires that are completed by the young person (where possible), their parents, and their teachers. A school consult or visit is arranged as needed.
02 In depth online consultation
An in-depth online parent consultation explores the young person’s presenting concerns, and their communication, social, and emotional developmental history.
03 Meeting the young person
A conversation with your teenager is arranged in a comfortable setting for the clinicians to spend time exploring whether their experience aligns with autistic experience. The young person’s voice is at the heart of the assessment process.
04 Outcome session
The outcome is shared in an online or preferably in-person session with parents and their teenager. A comprehensive strengths-based report is provided to families, outlining the ways in which a young person’s lived experience may or may not align with autistic experience, based on the DSM-5 criteria. Our multidisciplinary reports are recognised by the HSE and the Department of Education.
The fee for the Multidisciplinary Autism Identification service detailed above is €1950
